Brú Bhríde is a community development organisation and Family Resource Centre in Tuam, working with Travellers, settled people and migrant communities across the town and the surrounding areas.
Our story
Brú Bhríde started in 1983 as a settlement committee working to improve Traveller accommodation around Tuam. A year later it became the Tuam Travellers Support Group, set up on a simple principle: for real change to happen, Travellers themselves needed to be active in it.
The organisation became a limited company in 1994, and was known for a time as Tuam Travellers Education and Development Association, then Western Traveller and Intercultural Development. Today it is Brú Bhríde, a designated Family Resource Centre.
Over the years the work has broadened. While the primary focus stays with Travellers, Brú Bhríde also works with other groups in Tuam who experience marginalisation, and interculturalism runs through everything we do.
Brú Bhríde is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors and is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.
